Recommendations:
Herbert Hodgkinson:
· Request FHL film # 1041435 to obtain
a copy of Herbert and William Isaac
Hodgkinson’s, baptism certificates.[21]
I already extracted the information from this films but I neglected to make a
copy of the certificate.
· 1876 Newspaper Article: The Derby Mercury reported on July 26, 1876 in the District News
Section for Belper the following article: “UNLAWFULLY FISHING – Wm. Beardsley, Herbert Hodgkinson, Isaac Beardsey,
and Wm. Hatton were charged by Wm. Waterfield, underkeeper to j. G. Crompton,
Esq., of Shottle, with having on the 9th inst. Unlawfully taken six
trout out of a river in which Mr. Crompton had the right of fishing.- The whole
of the defendants admitted to the charge.
Beardsey was proved to have been previously convicted of a similar
offence and fined 40s. and costs. On the
present occasion he was also fined 40s. and costs. The other defendants were fined 20 s. and
costs each.”[22] Herbert died in 1875 so this was not our
Herbert Hodgkinson.
Eliza
Ann Hogkinson
· Request FHL Film #1041436 to obtain a
copy of Eliza Ann Hodgkinson baptism
certificates.[23] I
already extracted the information from this films but I neglected to make a
copy of the certificate.
· I found two marriage records for Eliza at
findmypast.com. It appears Eliza married
Hezekiah Twigg first in 1887[24],
and then she married George White in 1895.[25] These marriage records can be found on the
FHL Film 2080803.[26] Evidently, I looked at them once but
neglected to make a copy of them. I need
to find them again so I can have a hard copy of the information.
· If Eliza’s last name at the time of her death was Twigg
the following death record should be investigated. Eliza Ann Twigg died in 1929
at the age of 74 in Ripley, Derbyshire, England.[27]
William
Isaac Hodgkinson,
· I could not find any marriage information for him. I
did find a record for a William Hodgkinson married Mary Ellen Goodwin on Oct
12, 1879 in Chapel-En-Le-Frith, Derbyshire, England, whose name was William but
the groom’s birth date is too late and his father’s name is William not Isaac
so it is most likely not this William.[28]
Find the marriage record for William Hodgkinson and Mary Ellen Goodwin on
Family History film # 1751991 and #1041916 to verify this is not the correct
William Hodgkinson.[29] I extracted several baptism records for
children of William and Mary Hodgkinson.
They probably do not belong to my family since I believe our William is
not the one who married Mary Goodwin.
· I found three possible death records for a William
Hodgkinson but no record for a William Isaac Hodgkinson.
· The first death record was in the Heage Parish on 28
June 1876 at the age of 24.[30] This matches the location, name and age of
William Hodgkinson.
· The second
burial for a William Hodgkinson occurred in June 1915 (Belper).[31] This William was 61 at the time of death
putting his birth year at about 1854. I
have a christening record for William for 1852.
It is a possibility.
· The third possibility is for a William Hodgkinson
buried March 1921, age 73 in Belper.[32] This would put his birth year at about
1848. This is still in the range of
possibilities, his parents were married in 1845 and he was christened in 1854.
A search of the census records should determine if William lived past the age
of 24 and also help track the two William Hodgkinsons that appeared to be
living in the Belper area around the turn of the century.
Noah,
Isaac, Edward, Anna and George Hodgkinson
· These children were found as a result of the census
searches and I have not had time to research their lives yet. So a search still needs to be done for their
birth, marriage and death records as well as census records etc.

Hi! Great format and really enjoyed reading it. I was particularly interested, as I too, am researching relatives in the Heage/Belper area. Just a couple of comments: 1871 Census, I think Lucy was living 3 houses away from Spanker Inn, (maybe mis-read on census form). Also 1881 Census:Lucy living on Dunge Hill not Dung Hill. I'm tracing the Bradshaw and Key family and I can't help thinking that our relatives might well have known each other as neighbours as it it was such a small village. Regards, Elaine
