George Litchfield and Hannah Brooks

George Litchfield, 10th Child of Godfrey and Lucy:

1839 Birth: George was baptized on 3 March 1839 in Belper, Derbyshire, England.[1]
1841 Census: At two years of age, George was living with his parents and three brothers, Godfrey (15), Noah (10), and Octavius (8).  Godfrey is farming.[2]
1848 Birth: Hannah Brooks, wife of George Litchfield, was baptized on 23 Jul 1848. [3]
1851 Census: Twelve year old George is in school.  He lives with his two parents and three brothers, Godfrey (28), Thomas (24) and Octavius (16).  His father, Godfrey is farming 65 acres.[4]
1861 Census: Caught George visiting with his brother Octavius, his sister-in-law Sarah and niece Lucy.  George was 23, unmarried and working as a carpenter.[5]
1870 Marriage: George Litchfield (31) married Hannah Brooks (28) on Oct 28, 1870 in Duffield, Derbyshire, England.  George’s occupation is “Joiner”. [6]
1871 Census: At the age of 33, George was living with his wife Hannah (27) and his mother Lucy (83) on Pennicorn Farm where he was farming about 50 acres.  A thirteen year old  farm servant/indoor servant, William Holmes, was also living there.[7]
1871 Birth: Jane was born in Aug 1871 in Belper, Derbyshire, England.[8]
1873 Birth: Annie Litchfield  was born 21 Aug 1873 in Belper.[9]
1878 Baptisms: The children (Jane, Annie and George Edward) of George Litchfield were all baptized on 10 June 1878 in the Christ Church.[10]  At this time the family was living in St. Peter and George was working as a joiner. This record was in the Christ Church Baptism book but stated their “abode” was S. Peter, other people on the page had Christ church listed as their abode.  I wonder if the baptism took place at St. Peter but was registered in the Christ Church book.
1881 Census: George (42) is living in Belper and working as a “joiner”.  Living with him is his wife Hannah (40), his daughters Jane (10) and Annie (8) and his 5 year old son George.[11]
1882 Parish death record: George died at the age of 42.  He was buried on 26 Aug 1882 at St. Peter’s Church, Belper, Derbyshire, England.[12]
1891 Census: Hannah Litchfield (49) is widowed.  She is living in Belper with her three children Annie (17), George E (14) and Jane (9).  She is working as a net mender.[13]
1898 Marriage: George Edward Litchfield (22) married Susannah Woodward (24) on Sept 22, 1898 at St Peter’s Church, Belper, Derbyshire England. George Edward had been living at Broadholme in Belper and working as a joiner.  Susannah had been living on Cumming’s Street in Derby[14]
1901 Census: Hannah Litchfield (61) is living in Belper on Broadholme (or Fishermen’s res?) with her two daughters Jane (29), Annie (27), her son George (24), his wife Susan (28) and her infant grandson.  She is not working but Jane and Annie are net menders and George is a joiner.[15]
1904 Marriage: Annie Litchfield (29) married George Warnier Cupit (28) on May 28, 1904 at St. Peter’s Church, Belper, Derbyshire, England.  George had been living in Riddings and working as a laborer[16]
1911 Census:
·       Hannah Litchfield (70) is living on Broadholme in Belper with her son George (34), his wife Susannah (37), their two children, Franis Edward (10), Leonard George (5) and her unmarried daughter Jane Litchfield (39).[17]
·       Annie Cupit (36) is living on Top Farm Greenhill Lane in Alfreton, Derbyshire, England with her husband George Cupit (35) and two children Alfred George Cupit (3) and Lenord Earnest Cupit (2).[18]
1927 Death: Hannah Brooks Litchfield died at the age of 86 during the spring of 1927 in Belper, Derbyshire, England.[19]
1941 Death: Susannah Woodward, daughter-in-law of George Litchfield, died at the age of 67 in September 1941 in Belper, Derbyshire, England.[20]
1951 Death: George Edward Litchfield, died in Jun 1951 in Belper, Derbyshire, England.[21]
1951 Death: Jane Litchfield, died in the first quarter of 1951, in the registration district of Welton, Lincolnshire, England.[22]  Check this record to verify it is the correct person.  See recommendations.
1957 Death: George W Cupit, died in the 3rd quarter of 1957 in the registration district of Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.[23]  Check this record to verify it is the correct person.  See recommendations.

Children of George Litchfield, Grandchildren of Godfrey and Lucy Litchfield:
Jane Litchfield.  See recommendation section.
Annie Litchfield Cupit.  I have been unable to locate a death record.
George Warnier Cupit, spouse of Annie Litchfield.  See recommendation section.
Recommendations:
Hannah Brooks, wife of George
·       Look for the baptism record.  She was baptized on 23 Jul 1848, in FHL British Film 1752218 item 5, page 6.[24]
Find the will Hannah left - Litchfield, Hannah of Broadholme, Belper, Derbyshire widow died 26 Jun 1927  Administration Derby 26 Aug to Jane Litchfield spinster.  Effects £9 13s. 11d.

Jane Litchfield, daughter of George
·       A Jane Litchfield married John William Shrives on Sept 30, 1894 in Surrey England.[25]  This is not our Jane Litchfield because she is on the 1901 census still living with her mother and not married.  I am suspicious she never married.
·       I found a death index for a Jane Litchfield dying in 1951 at the age of 79 in Welton, Lincolnshire.  The death age matches Jane’s birth year but the death location does not match.  The last census available is the 1911 Census.  Jane is 39, single and living at Broadholme, Belper, Derbyshire, England.  It is possible she moved to Lincolnshire sometime during the ensuing 40 years.  This death record requires more research.  Check to see if she left a will.
Annie Litchfield, daughter of George
·       Find the death record for Annie.
George Warnier Cupit, spouse of Annie Litchfield, daughter of George
·       I found a record for a George W Cupit, age 82, who died sometime between Jul-Sept 1957 in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.[26]  This is a strong match except for the location so further investigation is required.  Perhaps George and Annie moved to Lincolnshire and Jane moved with them.  Checking city directories for the time period between 1911 and 1950 might help me pinpoint their location during these years.
