Elizabeth Litchfield Barker christened 9 Nov 1817

Eliza Litchfield, 2nd child of Godfrey and Lucy

1815 Birth: John James Barker, Eliza’s future husband. According to family records he was baptized on 30 May, 1815 in Nottinghamshire.  Find the marriage or death records to look for clues as to his exact birth location so the search can be narrowed down.
1817 Birth: Eliza was baptized on 9 Nov 1817.  The family was living in Belper and her father Godfrey was working as a laborer.[1]
1841 Marriage: Elizabeth Litchfield married John James Barker on 12 Jan 1841 in Duffield, Derbyshire, England. John’s occupation is listed as a carpenter.[2]
1841 Census:   Eliza Litchfield Barker (25) is living in Lenton, Nottinghamshire with her husband John Barker (26) and her in-laws Joseph and Mary Barker.  John is working as a joiner.[3]
1851 Census:  Eliza Litchfield Barker (34) is living in Belper, Derbyshire with husband John Barker (35) and four children, Harriett Barker (9), William Barker (5), John Barker (2) and Joseph Barker (3 months).  Sarah Hawkins (13), a house servant, is also living with them.  John’s occupation is Inn Keeper.  They are living on Market Place at the Angel Inn.[4]
1861 Census: Eliza Litchfield Barker is living with John Barker, sons Patrick Barker (12), Godfrey Barker (10) and daughter Hannah Barker (3).  They are living on Market Place in Belper and John’s occupation is Victualler.[5]
1864 Death: Eliza Litchfield Barker died late in 1864.  She was buried on 16 Nov 1864 at St. Peter’s Church, Belper, Derbyshire, England.[6]

Recommendations:

·        Search for christening records for the children of Eliza and John Barker.  According to the census records, there appears to be two families with parents of the name of John and Eliza Barker in Heage during the 1851-1871.  I found a record for a Patrick Barker but my records indicate Isaac Patrick is their son’s name.  Just seven years later, the couple had another son named Patrick so perhaps Isaac Patrick died or only went by Isaac?  My records indicate a son named Godfrey.  I found a baptisms record for a Joseph Godfrey in the same year whose parents are John and Eliza Barker.  I wonder if this is the same person.  There is a possibility I might be able to order birth certificates for Isaac Patrick and Annie, assuming I have found the correct family.  There is a record for a Hannah Eliza born in 1858 whose parents are John and Eliza Barker.  This could be the right family.  I need to look at 2080800 item 9-13 to locate that record in volume 4 on Page 144.[8]   Hopefully, I will be able to find the family listed on this film and straighten out which child belongs to which family or maybe there is just one family with more children than I am aware of.
·        John James Barker, spouse of Eliza Litchfield.  I found a burial record for a John Barker in Belper in 1900, dying at the age of 70.[9]  This age is off a little bit since he is in the 1901 Census.  I have him possibly born in 1813 and christened in 1815.
·        Annie Barker, daughter of Eliza I found two death records for an Annie Barker in Belper, March 1850[10] and June 1861.[11]  If 1850 is the correct one, Annie would have been about 6 years old.  If the 1861 date is right, she would have died at about the age of 17. I need to order these death records to see if they shed any light on the family.
·        Children of Eliza Litchfield and John James Barker.   I have been unable to locate any information in the marriage indexes at FamilySearch, new.familysearch, findmypast and freeBMD for the children of Eliza and John.  I also researched FHL film# 2080805 marriage indexes in Belper chapelry (St Peter).[12]  No Barker’s were found with the exception of Annie Eliza Barker age 24, Spinster from Brookside, Belper with no father listed.  This marriage does not match very well since the Annie we are looking for would have been 48 years old not 24 at the time of this marriage.  According to the Census records of 1851, 1861, 1871 the family was living in Belper, always on Angel Street.  The children listed on the 1851 census fit according to age but not according to name.  I wonder if “Harriette” (1851) is “Annie”(1861) , if “William”(1851) is  “Patrick”(1861) and if “Joseph”(1851) is “Godfrey”(1861). I will need to search for all of the above names.  FHL film # 2080803[13] contains the Parish marriage register for Belper.  I need to do a thorough search of this register to see if I can find any Barker marriages.
